Fortuna — hand-drawn watercolour cards on a wooden table, coming soon

Trade. Bluff. Run Risks. Retire in Style!

Fortuna is a light strategic card game for 3–6 players. Step into the golden age of sail, a high-stakes world where wily merchants swap, scheme, and strategise to outwit the competition and make their fortune!

Everyone wants out of the risky world of baroque business — but who will be the first to earn the right to retire as a gentleperson? Use blind trades, shrewd investments, and sneaky actions to build up your landed estate and gain a dominant market position. The race is on, but there's no room for complacency: hidden in the pack, Fortuna, the goddess of chance, is waiting...

About Us

My name is Jake Dyble, and I’m a professional historian at the University of Padua.  Fortuna is a historical card game that grew out of my research into this fascinating period of history.

The idea was to create a satisfying, sophisticated and immersive card game, requiring wit and tactical thinking whilst remaining accessible to casual gamers. It’s big on social interaction and memorable “gotcha!” moments. You definitely don’t need to be a history fan to enjoy a game of Fortuna, but if you are one, you’re going to love all the history-inspired gameplay and fun Easter eggs hidden throughout the game.

Fortuna is going to launch as a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter in 2027. Working in collaboration with my dad, Mark Dyble, I am a running campaign to spread the word and bring Fortuna to life: together we are  The Nice Ideas Studio!

The Art

Beautiful, hand-drawn, watercolour illustrations will bring this exciting world to life. We are working with watercolour artist Catherine Boël and graphic designer Harriet Cody to create original artwork and design that transports the splendour and drama of 17th- and 18th-century life to your table.
